Service - Repair of Violins, Violas & Cellos

To offer an effective repair service

 it is important that instruments that we accept for service are…‘fit for purpose’…

 (i.e. that they are of robust design…... not poorly made). Another important aspect is that spare parts

should be readily available, however for instruments that were purchased from an On - Line

 Warehouse or E-bay, this is not always so.

This half size Cello was purchased from an On - Line Warehouse.. Clearly the instrument was not checked before being sent to the

customer. The instrument’s wooden bridge had two problems.

i).  The' bridge' was too small, it's overall height was not enough

to hold the strings at the correct height above the fingerboard.

ii).  The 'bridge' had been made from low quality Beech Wood, so it

could not sustain the down pressure of the Cello Steel Strings.

A new replacement bridge was ordered from Germany by Reid's

and fitted to the Cello.

Oh no, not E-bay !

  This rather sad looking Cello came into our workshop for repair.

It had been purchased on E-bay by a South London student

We can clearly see that the Cello is not… ' fit for purpose' !...

These are just two examples of varying ' On - Line',problematic repairs that we now see at Reid's.It is the case that these On - Line repairs hinder the efficiency of our workshop and in consequence delay service to our own customers. We therefore regret to advise that  from the 1st February 2018 our service department  will no longer service, renovate or repair instruments that have been purchased On - Line.
